After a student graduates from OBW, there are numerous opportunities for alumni to build upon the skills they learned as a participant and return to the program as a volunteer. Alumni assume key leadership roles and utilize their strong team-building skills as valuable members of the staff.

(All volunteers over 18 years of age must pass a criminal background check.)

Alumni Volunteers

Two alumni from Youngstown State University

Alumni Volunteers assist staff in all program areas, including:

  • Hosting speakers
  • Assisting Company Advisors
  • Participating in general assemblies
  • Compiling program materials
  • Doing office work
  • Providing messenger service
  • Setting up and tearing down events
  • Monitoring participant free time activities
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Enforcing OBW Code of Conduct

Application Process

Students who are interested in returning to OBW as an alumni volunteer must complete an alumni volunteer application and obtain a favorable recommendation from their Company Advisor. Students must also make at least two presentations about their OBW experience. One presentation must be to a group of at least 10 students at their high school, and the second presentation must be to a business or community organization in their community.

Selection Process

There are only a few alumni volunteer positions available. The selection process for alumni volunteers is highly competitive and meeting the above requirements does not guarantee a position. Applicants should communicate their promotion and recruitment efforts via email. Alumni volunteers are generally selected in the spring.
