Every year, thousands of applications are mailed to teachers, counselors and administrators of Ohio's public, private, parochial and charter schools. Because of their dedication to promoting the program, hundreds of students are given the opportunity of a lifetime - attending Ohio Business Week. And year after year, the program is a success!

We Need Your Help!

Ohio Business Week is primarily promoted with the help of loyal teachers, counselors and administrators. The Ohio Business Week Foundation needs your help in distributing applications, following up with students, making school announcements, writing articles for your school newspaper, and supporting other promotional initiatives. There is no limit in the number of students that may attend from your school.

Contact the Foundation to learn more about how you can help, have your name added to our mailing list, and to request applications or an OBW video.

Create Incentives For Your Students To Attend OBW

A curriculum is available to help you determine if your district may provide:

  • 1/2 elective credit
  • Hours toward an internship requirement
  • Recognition through awards ceremonies

Help Your Students Pass The Ohio Graduation Test

Ohio Council on Economic Education

Partners with the Ohio Council on Economic Education, the OBW curriculum complements the economics strand of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). Now, students who graduate from OBW are better prepared for the OGT.

Prepare Your Students for Higher Education

Hosted on the campuses of Ohio Dominican University and Youngstown State University, OBW Man in Penguin suit
enables students to prepare for their future after high school and explore higher education opportunities. Students:

  • Experience life on a college campus (e.g. stay in dorms, eat cafeteria food and use recreation facilities)
  • Have the chance to speak with university personnel about majors, and college and career options
  • Meet hundreds of new people and make new friends
  • Strengthen college applications
  • Enhance their career passport
  • Build their resume

What is Ohio Business Week?

Ohio Business Week (OBW) is about:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Competition
  • Friendship
  • College life
  • And so much more!

Participants experience what it is actually like to be an entrepreneur in today's exciting business world. Students are assigned to a "company" with 10-12 high school students from across Ohio. Under the leadership of their elected CEO, each company develops an imaginary business venture from the ground up. From researching and writing business plans to competing in the exciting Emerging Entrepreneur Project Competition, students make connections between what they are learning and their own real-world experiences and ambitions.

An Experience Not Offered in Schools!

Instructors at OBW

Students work one-on-one with numerous business professionals throughout the program, gaining priceless insight into the world of business and experiencing what it means to be a valuable, productive member of the work force.

While their Company Advisor guides them throughout the entire week, students also work with financial, marketing and business experts. In addition, they have the opportunity to speak with some of Ohio's most influential business executives during general assemblies and small group seminars.

Most importantly, business professionals provide students with the knowledge, skills and support they need to succeed long after they leave the program. Students are better prepared to successfully transition to higher education, enter the work force, and become successful entrepreneurs and business people in a global marketplace.

Best of all

College credits and scholarships are available! Students who successfully complete OBW may earn three transferable credits (cost of credits not included in program fee). In addition, two exceptional students at each program are awarded $500 scholarships for college educational expenses by the Ohio Business Week Foundation. Those students who attend the Youngstown State University (YSU) program and plan to attend YSU for undergraduate studies, have the opportunity to compete for additional college scholarships offered by the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU.
